Founded in 1892, the German Society of Winnipeg (GSW) is one of the oldest cultural societies in Canada, mirroring the cultural aspirations of hundreds of thousands of Manitobans of Germanic origin.
As well, Canadians of German heritage are among the largest ethnic groups in both Manitoba and Canada.
There are many cultural groups affiliated with the GSW.
